Dave had the day off work today, in lieu of having to work on Saturday, and I finished at lunchtime so we decided to make our annual visit to see the christmas decorations at Chatsworth this afternoon.

The photo is of one of my favourite things at Chatsworth - the weather station. As you can see by the raindrops and dull light, the weather wasn't good! The decorations were so disappointing that this made a more interesting photo! The decorations have been going downhill every year; I think Chatsworth must be economising. I'm glad we get a 2 for 1 deal every year for it, but even with discount, I'm not sure it'll be worth going next year.
Nice shot! I'm guessing the card hasn't got many burn marks on it! Shame the decorations are going downhill. I don't think I've ever been at Christmas, do they decorate the gardens or just the house?

@abirkill

No, there won't have been any lines burned all week I don't think!

They just decorate a few rooms in the house so there aren't as many rooms open as there are for the rest of the year. Some picture from this year can be seen on my blog here:

and there are links in there to photos from 2010 and 2011 too.

I love Chatsworth. I went to see the Christmas decorations on the day the Christmas Market was supposed to have been 'cancelled' due to weather. I think that kept the crowds away.
Maybe the trees were not so impressive, but I love the details in the way the rooms are decorated.
And they are the best visitor attraction I have ever been to with helping disabled visitors. They get big brownie points from me for that :-)

A nice, pure shot. I don't know the site, but I think you tell me a story about it.

Stories are a big deal for me with photographs. All very good to have an abstract shot, but tell me why you took the shot! It must have appealed to some "gut" response from you.

Interesting device, the way things have been just lately I'd have thought a card would just turn to mush.

There's a chap called Chris McCaw who does this with field cameras, believe it or not - he takes a very long exposure into the sun and it burns a track across printing paper. Occasionally the camera catches fire. The results are quite stunning.

This is a great looking weather station!
