This is Blakemere Pool, known as Mermaid Pool. I went for a little drive today and took a few photos around Home. You can read about the legends of Mermaid Pool here:
I can tell you that the one about it never freezing over is rubbish as I've seen and snapped it frozen solid many times! As to people being sucked under the water there's an interesting theory that the pool is connected, via underground cave systems, to Doxey Pool over on the the Roaches (the Roaches are the rocks, the ridge, seen in the distance just to the right of Mermaid Pool).
It looks like a lovely day from the photo and it would have been were it not for the cold wind. It was very cold and very strong (especially at about 1600ft!) - it almost took the car door off when I stepped out to take this photo so all my photos today were a case of, pull over, take the shot as fast as I can then run back to the shelter of my car!
Grand view, it certainly does look cold. It was really sunny here but the wind although not really strong was icy too. Couldn't access your second link, only for Picasso members. Just to let you know.

oh thanks for that. My albums are all set to public, but I hadn't realised the only applies to individual albums, only those who can sign into google can see the album link it seems. I'll change it to add links to the albums themselves.
I can tell it's cold -- it looks like the sort of place that gas relentless winds blowing hard across the land with no barriers to stop it. So it's a mermaid and not a pukka who pulls people into the water?
@catwoman2
Yes, the legend tells of a mermaid and yes, it is one of those places where there's usually a wind howling across the moors - even if it's not windy anywhere else. It's not too far from Englands highest village and the moors here are at about 1600 feet above sea level!

Thanks for your comments :)
