I last saw an adult peregrine on 31st May. They had 4 chicks in their nest and those chicks would have fledged in the next week or so, but they were taken from the nest on 2nd June. This makes me really angry, and sad, and today I decided I'd snap the notice that went up last week to record this event in my year here. There are no natural predators around that would have taken the chicks from their nest, half way up a rock face, (except humans) so it is assumed they were stolen to be sold. The pair have been breeding here successfully for several years, I do hope they'll return next year - and if they do, I'm sure there will be lots of people ready and willing to put 24/7 nest surveillance in operation!
I share your anger Louise. Sadly, humans are the most selfish species on the planet. We have it all, but we still want more. I hope that the cuplrits are found and punished severely.
So sad and frustrating! I can feel your anger and share it. What an invasion. Here's hoping the protections will prevent this from ever happening again.

It's even more annoying that I don't think there's that much money to be made from Peregrine chicks any more. The price has come down a lot. I'm really hoping the thieves will be caught but I think it's highly unlikely.
I was on Peregrine watch a few weekends before this happened. This is how my partner and I discovered that the chicks had been taken. It's so annoying and saddening that someone has done this. Whoever did it had to have specialist equipment as they were nesting in a location only experienced climbers could access.
