common white saddle by roachling

common white saddle

A mushroom I found at Chatsworth, there were lots of these along a stretch of path and I think they are common white saddle mushrooms.

I didn't manage a photo today - it was a long, hard day at school then I visited a teacher friend for a chat and went straight to bed when I got home at 7pm ish!
Interesting and strange fungus!

What an elaborate mushroom. Do you know if they're edible?

Lovely composition. The mushroom is so delicate and a beautiful colour. It's looks well against the tree and the moss.

@dh
I hadn't even thought of that but I've just looked it up . My mushroom book says these are edible if well cooked but Wikipedia says this "Although some guidebooks list this species as edible, the genus is now regarded with suspicion by many. Research has established this species contains methylhydrazine, which can cause severe sporadic intoxications, and may be carcinogenic. It has been reported to cause gastrointestinal symptoms when eaten raw" - I wouldn't recommend it!
