365 Days Wild - Day 41

I spent a little while crouched down amongst some nettles looking at all the insect life on them.

At first I thought this was a type of crab spider, but I've identified it this morning as a 'candy striped spider' - Enoplognatha ovata (from Greek - Enoplos meaning armed, gnathos meaning jaw or mandible and ovata meaning egg shaped).

This one, with the two red stripes. is the redimita variant. I learned all this from the British Arachnological Society page, a website I often find myself on when I look up spiders!

(I don't know what kind of fly it has captured though!)

Excellent capture and write up. As for the fly, it is from the genus - unfortunate.

Can't look this one up, don't do spiders. What a great capture though. You have all the detail well.

Amazing detailed capture. You must be very pleased with your camera and also very brave to sit amongst the nettles.

@flowerfairyann yes, the camera is pretty good! I wasn't right in the middle of the nettles (I did get a few stings but I'm used to that so don't bother really!)

Great capture with wonderful detail. Can't help feeling sorry for the fly though. Fav, and thanks for your comment on my shield bug capture!
