Every year, from about the middle of January, I look out for the snowdrops appearing in the village closest to where I grew up. I've been looking out for shoots for the last couple of weeks and today, I thought they would be flowering so went out to have a look.
There aren't all that many snowdrops in my immediate locality. I don't know of any at all around my house or within walking distance (I've never found any) and although I know of several good snowdrop spots around the Peak District, I'm never found good patches close to home, just small clumps here and there.
These are my most familiar clumps, the ones I note each year. Regardless of whether we've had a very cold or a very mild winter, they always flower at the same time. I like their consistency, always appearing in the last couple of days of January!
