River dipping by roachling

River dipping

A day's work with Derbyshire Wildlife Trust, river dipping sessions at a family event in a park in Derby. It was very busy. I sat down to eat lunch but just a couple of minutes later, the next group arrived so we didn't get a lunch break after all.

Successful day though, we found bullheads as well as various other little creatures. Also, a lot of signal crayfish too, which were not returned to the water (it's a criminal offence to return them if caught) - they were taken away for humane dispatch due to the problems they are causing to native species and the erosion they're causing on riverbanks.
feet up for 5!.. sounds a great day. we had a stream running through our farm at Horton when we were kids. oh the Bullhead we used to catch! we would be gone all day

Sounds like a very busy day! Lovely spot to sit, even if only for a few minutes.
