Do You Want It Back? by rob257

Do You Want It Back?

I found your beer can this morning.
Do you want it back?
I suppose not. After all, you threw it away.
Still, it’s only worth a nickel to me, and I wouldn’t mind.
Do you want it back?
I found your peace of mind this morning. It was lying next to your hopes and your dreams. Along side all of your plans for tomorrow.
Do you want them back?
I almost didn’t seeing them there on the side of the road . The twisted shards of your life amidst the broken glass, the once sleek metal and the aftermath of the accident you never saw coming.
Do you want them back?
In a few hours the highway crews will sweep them away along with your dreams and the dreams of the ones you love. The summer rains will wash away the blood stains on the highway and the crimson path that leads to the hospital will slowly disappear.
Your life. Do you want it back?
Profound statement .. along with the photo make quite a statement.. Bravo!

Thanks, Cheryl. I should have waited until I had some time to edit and re-write the narrative. Kind of like a SOOC photo. No post processing. A work in progress, in other words, but I trust our family. Thanks for taking the time to view and read.

Shirley, Livia, Anoeska and Carol, I sure appreciate your taking the time to respond. Wasn't sure if I should post the picture or the poem, but I'm glad I did.

I am glad you posted this as well. Litter is bad enough, but I think you've really told a story here. . .

Nicely done and well told.

@rob257 just an FYI, a coworker read this the other day with me, and came to work this morning and asked if I could print it off for her, she said she thought about the words all weekend...

@cheribug
Cheryl, I'm really touched. Certainly feel free to share and please tell your coworker I appreciate her appreciation!

That is wonderful....you should send it on to someone who makes posters against this....like MADD. It is an awesome statement. FAV

Thanks, Lynn. I hadn't thought about sending it to MADD. I save the money from the cans I collect on my walks (far too many) and send the proceeds to MADD. Thanks for the idea. After I polish it up a bit, I'll do that. (Polish the poem, that is. Not the cans.)
