I know better. I really do. Battery ran out on the approach to the statue. 2 fully charged backups sat in the parking lot. A great day at Ellis Island and the statue, but not as great as it might have been!

A reminder for us all, I guess. Interesting. Very tight security. Couldn't keep my pocket knife and they couldn't promise I'd get it back. Ended up hiding it in the undercarriage of an old steam locamotive next to the parking lot. Fortunately it was early and there weren't many people around. My knife was still there when we returned.
My family anchored behind her for a couple days back in 1991 when we lived aboard our boat. We rowed over to a sketchy place in NJ and took the ferry over to see her. Didn't think we could row up to the island. LOL But that was way before 9/11. That is funny about your pocket knife. My husband has hidden pocket tools in planters at airports and they've been there when he returned. LOL
Wow...interesting about security! Too bad about the battery...my husband's birthday present to me this year was a spare battery! Greatest thing to have.

Great present! We met a guy the other day who hand carves kayak paddles. Alluding to the consequences of losing one (being up a creek without a paddle) he said, "If you've got two, you've got one. If you've got one, you have none." That was me and my battery. (Spares left in the car don't count! )

Thanks for viewing and commenting. It's like hearing from family! And, yes, the extra batteries will ALWAYS be with me!!

I love it! It was actually a security guard who suggested that I go "visit the garden".
