@bobfoto This one has been split into a new species(used to be a subspecies), Plegadis chihi, P. falcinellus is limited to the Eastern parts of the US. Blame the advent of molecular techniques for rapid shifts in classifications.
@bobfoto The plumage is brighter in P. chihi, in breeding individuals the face has pink skin around the eyes which have a red iris. The bill is grayish and the entire face is broadly bordered with white.
