Creating shaped bokeh has been on the list for a while. I had a chance to try it tonight, with the Christmas tree. Hey... the craft store was having a sale on the shaped hole punchers. ;) Here is a snowflake, in time for the season.
This is going to take some practice... but thanks, as always, for taking time to stop by.

@froggie0628 I thought about it, too, but I knew I would stink at it. So I went to a craft store and bought some paper shaped hole punches. They aren't expensive and you can cut the paper to fit over the lens. Worked like a charm. :)
What a fun effect! How did you do this? I have shaped hole punchers, too but have never used them for photography. I can see I have toys to play with once I learn how.
@jyokota I just punched the shape into an index card, used the lens cap to trace for size, cut it out and taped it onto the lens. Manual focus, blur, snap, done. :)
@jyokota You punch one hole in the card... you need some lights to shoot. Every light is a "bokeh" shape. Basically, instead of a rounded shape (which comes from your lens), the shape is structured by the exterior shape of the punched image. "Heart" punch = heart bokeh; "snowflake" punch = snowflake bokeh.
