Another shot in my "prison series" of this week, resulting from my weekend visit to the Missouri State Penitentiary, 1863-2004, now vacant.
Missouri has the death penalty (don't get me started) and these are the keys, in the lock, which open the stand-alone execution chamber structure. First gas, then lethal injection, the chamber is open for tours today, along with a composite photo of all the sorry folks who met their maker inside.
Rich with history, tragedy, humanity and architecture, I find these spaces compelling... but feel free to skip on down, as you please. One of these days soon, I'll get back to the more mundane.
Thanks, as always, for taking time to stop by.
OMG - I just noticed. They were made in St. Louis. Ack!
10/1/2020: Finished year 7 (!), with continuing gratitude towards this amazing community. Based in St. Louis, MO. Regular worker-bee and self-taught photography dilettante....
An excellent shot of a chilling subject. Certainly makes me think, and to be grateful Australia, both Commonwealth and states, had abolished the death penalty in the 1960s. Very rare even then, and will never be re-instated, far too much public opposition.
