Sonny Liston Slept Here

Wrapping up my "prison week" series from my visit to the now vacant Missouri Penitenitary in Jefferson City, MO.

This framed poster showed Muhammed Ali, standing in triumph over the fallen Sonny Liston, in 1964, as he upset Liston to win the World Heavyweight Title.

It sits upon the bed in the cell that Sonny Liston used to inhabit when he was a resident at this correctional facility in 1950. While he was incarcerated at the Missouri State penitentiary, prison athletic director Father Alois Stevens introduced him to the sport of boxing. The rest is history.

Who knew?

Almost done my prison week - thanks for your tolerance. I appreciate each visit, even though the topic is kind of gloomy... very kind of you.
Rather dramatic picture in a picture of solitary confinement!

This shot tells a great story Rosie. I'm enjoying your prison shots, hope you post some more. Nothing like a bit of grunge.
