Green woodpecker by rosiekind

Green woodpecker

I went for a walk along the cycle track but via the fields. I saw this woodpecker fly out of the undergrowth and into this tree. I hadn't really got my camera settings right at all and it was overexposed so I have had to sort it out on my computer which I don't usually do. Just after I took this, I turned round and there was a lady behind me also walking through the field and it did make me jump a bit. She was trying so hard not to make me jump. Anyway, we had a little chat and she said that she loved walking along by the river and often comes over to Willington. I later saw her enjoying a cup of tea at Danish Camp and she was reading the paper so I didn't go over and sit with her.

The fridge has been delivered to my client after a lot of messing about with me being misinformed about the timing of the delivery. However, it has to stand for 24 hours before it can be switched on to let the gases settle. She has nobody else to help her so I am going over in the morning to plug it in and switch it on for her. I've told her that I cannot give her an exact time as I have to do my housework cleaning the house, washing, etc. I've finished work as I'm having a week off but I am going to a meeting on Tuesday as it's the first one for the new Healthwatch Reference Group which I've been invited to join - I am a glutton for punishment! However, I do think it's important to have a voice to speak up for some of my clients about health issues because they cannot always speak up for themselves. I was a nurse and Health Visitor so feel I have the experience to stand up for better practice.
Well captured - not easy I know! And well done for standing up for better practice - more people need to!

I never knew there were green woodpeckers. You are very kind to help your client so much.

@tishpics Thank you for your kind comments on the pic. It is important that we don't let the NHS and social services become not fit for purpose. I work with some of the most vulnerable clients and they have lost the will to fight as they are elderly and finding it hard to cope with a partner with dementia for example. Grown men cry due to frustration and exhaustion and I feel so sad for them

A lovely capture!! It's wonderful that you're trying to help the more elderly and vulnerable in our society.

@traceyhn The green woodpeckers are much shyer than the spotted ones and they are always hard to capture. This poor lady doesn't have anyone to help her as she has never married so doesn't have any children - it's sad really

@carolmw Thanks Carol for your kind comments. It is very rewarding working with these people as they have had interesting lives but nobody to listen to them which is sad. I really love my job because I meet such lovely people who really appreciate what I do for them

Wonderful shot...and if you had to 'rescue' it, you did a good job. Well done on you for helping those who can't voice for themselves.
