I spent 2.5 hrs this morning down the brook but only had one sighting of the kingfisher. However, I think this is a female as when I zoomed in, it looks as though it has a red lower part of her beak so I am not sure what she was doing in the male's territory although it may have something to do with spring. It's not a terribly good shot but I was pleased to get it as I had waited so long. Best on black if you have the time
Thanks for visiting my project and for all your kind comments and Favs - it is what keeps me going although I can't make up my mind whether to continue your Ace membership.
Nice catch Rosie, a lot of the pairs I know about, seem to have paired up and from the comments of some of the birders that watch certain pairs consistently they seem to think the female is already sitting on eggs, as they have been watching the male fly to the nest hole with fish for the female.
Looks almost statuesque - which is not what I expect of a king fisher. I'm never sure how anyone sees them in the first place, let alone captures them on camera. This shows her off beautifully.
