Just because it's a beautiful, transitory thing. It's not something I would have bought for myself, although I do quite like it now. There's also a second bud just beginning to open behind the first flower, so it looks like it'll be around for a while. Kerching! Filler pics for the next week & beyond (as if I'd do that. Well, really, and you went along with that thought far too easily!)
For me, the essence of buying a gift is choosing something that you know they would like, something in line with their personal wish list, rather than choosing something that you yourself would like. My family never seem to get this concept. I've had some very disappointing gifts in my time!
Oh dear Matt I hope your family don't follow you on 365!! I think unless you know definitely what they like plump for a voucher or token...specially books for me!! Perhaps they will get the hint.
To be truthful I feel the same as you but I think women are easier to buy for!!
And always remember it's supposed to be the thought that counts!!!!
Sounds like you are nurturing this flower...who would have thought!!
@happypat Oh, they already know. Little difference does it ever make! I've given up on recieving any good presents. I usually get utter tatt, like trinkets picked up from some holiday or other. The sort of stuff that only is interesting if you've been on that particular holiday. Decorated gourds come to mind.
@sabresun Oh dear that is truly dire..but very funny! I should say no present giving in future & then use the money to buy yourself something you really want!!
I'm sure Bekki is exempt from this litany of woe!!!
@happypat Bekki bought me a toy car for my Birthday. Not only a toy car, but a toy car character from the Pixar cartoon Cars. This was bought because apparently it went well with the lousy card my father gave me of a racing car Birthday card (i,e the type you'd give to a yound boy) Sometimes, I just wonder where the thoughts go when they decide upon these gifts.
I have terrible trouble trying to buy prezzies for my menfolk; they don't know what they want but expect me to know!
Anyway, your amaryllis is lovely - caught the texture of the petals nicely here.
@sabresun No ta! I give on the premise that once the gift is out of my hands its fate is not my business. Nice to think it's liked but do what you will with it.

They will repeat the cycle as they dry out and then receive more moisture.
