Steam-engine by sandradavies

Steam-engine

Tested this and it still works! A 1950's well loved family toy.
The lemon coloured pot to the right when filled with flammable liquid and ignited heats up the copper tank filled with warm water. Steam goes through the small tube and drives the vertical brass mechanism. It isn't attached to anything in this picture but long ago we used to drive a meccano lift. It kept my kids entertained when they were developing their own school science projects. Good fun.
Lovely piece of family history

@sandradavis Hi Sandra thank you for the challenge and encouragement. My GP417 challenge for you is to take a photo of a mural/wall art that inspires you and why.

Great shot of your steam engine toy!

@sprphotos Thank you for the challenge Sylvia - we have some wonderful murals here. I'll look for some that inspires me!

Oh what wonderful memories this invokes! I had a very similar one called a 'Mamod' with a small tray full of cotton wool that was soaked in methelated spirits and then lit. Mine also used to run various meccano contraptions. I can't imagine safety-fixated parents encouraging children to play with matches, inflammable liquid, naked flames, high pressure steam, boiling water and un-guarded moving machinery these days without a host of protective gear (helmets, goggles, gloves, masks etc.etc).

@jon_lip Ha exactly, I was never one of those parents who held the matches. I gave them to the kids to explore fire and fear. Yes so many memories. Jon I thought this is very similar to the 'Mamod', we fire it with meths too. Great memories, and glad to have these to pass on.
