This is a collectors’ item. From the way it is impeccably kept I assume it is kept in a neat and well-kept garage (not like mine) day in day out to be admired by its owner and taken out for a drive to enjoy and make a show of sometimes on Sunday (weather permitting). I was lucky to capture in a cul-de-sac off Tower Road, Sliema.
The Triumph Spitfire was introduced at the London Motor Show in 1962. The vehicle was based on a design produced for Standard-Triumph in 1957 by Italian designer Giovanni Michelotti. The Spitfire was provided with a manual hood for weather protection, the design improving to a folding hood for later models. In addition factory manufactured hard-tops could also be purchased and fitted for use in winter months.
The Mark III (which I presume this is), was introduced in March 1967. It was the first major facelift to the Spitfire. Among the new features the interior was improved with a wood-veneer instrument surround. The Mark III was the fastest Spitfire yet, achieving 60 mph (97 km/h) in 14.5 seconds, and reaching a top speed of 95 mph (153 km/h).
