Yesterday was San Gwann's turn to celebrate its festa - Our Lady of Lourdes. Though I have been living here for a good number of years I have never followed this annual event. But yesterday, before going out to the Sliema front, I went up on my roof to capture this pic of the letting off of petards at the time the titular statue of the Holy Virgin is taken out of church for the procession around San Gwann. This was about 19.45 when the sun was going down. During daytime petards replace fireworks as the lateral cost much more and are not as effective as after sunset.
