Yesterday, Sunday, Malta commemorated Remembrance Day. So I decided to go and watch the wreath-laying ceremony at the War Memorial in Floriana, just outside Valletta, and take some interesting pictures (I can’t remember having been to that ceremony before). I was there somewhat early and had a good look around to find the best place to take my pictures. When the dignitaries started arriving (and all the other good vantage places were taken) a detachment of army soldiers who had been on stand by nearby marched through the street, around the monument and, guess what, took up a position just in front of me, obstructing almost completely my view. Well I managed to take some pictures, the best of which I have grouped in this collage. The pictures are as follows:
1. That detachment of soldiers marching to take up their position.
2. The President of Malta, H.E. Dr. George Abela during a silent period for the occasion (my mobile rang at that exact time and had to switch off rapidly)
3. The War Memorial
4. The President of Malta walking back to his position after laying his wreath
5. Some of the members of the diplomatic corp led by the dean of the corp, the Papal Nunzio.
6. The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dr Michael Frendo about to place his wreath
7. A detachment from the Police Corp
8. The Prime Minister, Dr Lawrence Gonzi , going up to the monument to place his wreath
9. A general view of the atmosphere of the occasion.
