The Basilica was built in a neo-romanesque style. There are no frescoes painted on the walls or ceiling – just a few mosaics and paintings. The walls retain the stone colour which glows in the sun rays that enter from the many windows. There is some fantastic carved stonework all around the church which are very detailed and crisp. This shot shows the four arches which support the dome. Maltese limestone is soft and ideal for carving and sculpting.

This is an amazing church- so inspiring with its golden glow. The artisans knew what they doing when they left out the frescoes and featured the stonework instead. Beautiful shot.
