English speaking people are unable to pronounce the ‘q’in this word and it’s such fun to see them straining their vocal cords trying. The Maltese ‘q’ is part of our semitic language which is close to Arabic. It was introduced to Malta by the Phoenicians who came from the land of Caanan (now part of Lebanon) and colonized Malta in about 1000 BC, bringing their Semitic language and culture with them. They used the islands as an outpost from which they expanded sea explorations and trade in the Mediterranean.
Ta’ Qali has a vast fun/recreational park, recently furbished. There is even an exercise area for grown-ups. In the complex is also an indoor swimming pool and gym. There are also the National Football Stadium and training grounds very close by . A go-cart track and plane flying area are in another part of Ta’ Qali as is an area for stock-car and motor bike racing.
This is one of many Bird of Paradise (Strelitzia) I found at the park. This plant is native to South Africa where it is known as Crane flower. In Malta it grows very well and doesn’t need a lot of caring.
I took this shot at the entrance of the fun park where my brother and I (together with our wives) took our grandchildren for a day out during Easter holidays.
Many thanks for looking and for your lovely comments on yesterday's picture.
