I took this shot after we had a lovely dinner in Nadur, Gozo. Rested the camera on a stone hedge for this capture, even though I had my tripod in the car booth (I rarely use it, in fact). Nadur is on top one of the many hills in Gozo and there is a magnificent view of the channel between Malta and Gozo during the day time. Ghajnsielem is on lower ground and in the far distance you can see the lights near the ferry landing place in Malta.
Ghajnsielem is pronounced eye-n-sea-lem. The word means ‘peaceful spring’. It originated from the water spring around which Grandmaster Perellos, in 1700, built an arcade containing public washbasins and fresh water spouts – I am happy to have found this information as I wasn’t aware of it. Ghajnsielem is the first Gozitan village that greets the visitor on leaving Mġarr Harbour towards the Gozitan heartland.
Thank you so very much for looking and for your wonderful comments on yesterday’s picture.
