This is Gozo's version of the Christ of Rio de Janiero. Placed on one of the hilltops overlooking their small island, Gozitans have erected this statue of Christ with open arms to protect them.
The statue, made of concrete is twelve metres tall and replaces a stone statue of Christ which in turn replaced a large wooden cross. The stone statue was placed there in 1901 when Gozo was consecrated to Christ the Saviour. Inset is a close up of the statue.
Thank you very much for looking and for your lovely comments on yesterday's picture.
