While roaming around the empty church of St Augustine, I saw this niche in one of the side chapels with an effigy of St Rita, a saint who is venerated in this church – in fact, some people refer to this church as the Church of St Rita. I loved the lighting in the dark chapel and so I asked Christine to pose for me in a corner to give life and size to the picture.
Some of you have asked what the arrangement in yesterday’s picture symbolises. Well, the round disc at the top symbolises the Host (or Christ), the Holy Bible you all know, the boat with the candle symbolises St Paul’s shipwreck on Maltese land – it was St Paul who in 60 AD brought the faith to Malta; the candelabra represents Judaism (I presume).
Thank you all very much for looking and for your lovely comments on yesterday's picture.
Such beautiful and reverential lighting- it must be a beautiful place to pray. Nice shot- and thank you for the explanation of yesterday's shot- the symbols now make a great deal more sense to me!
