Pron (past –its –tsi) – the singular for this word is pastizz. These are Malta’s most popular snack. They are very delicious, cost little and are very filling. Not the ideal snack for weightwatchers though, however one or two every now and then will make no harm. You will find shops in every part of Malta selling them and I would suggest to anybody visiting Malta to try them. Pastizzi are sold in two different forms: those filled with peas and sometimes a taste of anchovies and those filled with rikotta. The top shot on the left shows a tray of pea ones while the bottom tray shows the rikotta ones. These trays had just been delivered to this small coffee shops which is one of the best reknown for pastizzi. Pastizzi are even sold frozen to be cooked at home. Some people make their own pastizzi filling them with whatever they prefer.
There are Maltese migrants who have carried with them the pastizzi customs to their country of adoption and have opened retail outlets where they sell them.
Thank you very much for looking and for your lovely comments on yesterday's picture.
