San Giorgio is the Italian for Saint George. So if my name was San I would be San Giorgio because Giorgio is my surname.
This is not the original cathedral of Ragusa Ibla (or Lower Ragusa). The original cathedral, built in the 4th century, was destroyed in a 1693 earthquake which destroyed whole towns and villages in Sicily and caused extensive damages also in Malta, particularly in Mdina. This cathedral was built in 1738 in the Baroque style and can be reached by a flight of 250 steps. The dome is in the Neoclassical style and was built in 1820.
Thank you very much for looking and for your lovely comments on yesterday's picture.
This is fabulous. I love all the detail that you've captured (and of course you can have a ride in the car. Let me know when you're flying in and I'll pick you up at the airport.)
