Last Friday, as soon as we arrived at my sister’s apartment in Xaghra (Gozo) we unpacked, had a quick shower and went out to enjoy the evening. We had a lovely pizza which we helped to digest with some good Gozo wine and then went to Rabat centre were festivities were taking place under an open marquee tent. On that day it was the dancers’ turn. The shots in this collage are of the first two groups. During one of the exhibitions this guy stood right in front of the stage taking photos as you can see. I couldn’t cut him out of the picture and think he makes a cool silhouette.
Being an off-season weekend, the Ministry for Gozo decided to promote the island with free travel tickets for which it would make good (out of taxpayers’ money). We had planned this short stay much earlier and were going to call it off for the influx of Maltese who would take the offer. On Friday, few, if any, Maltese crossed to Gozo and the show was poorly attended, even though the dancers were pretty good. On Saturday evening a concert by Malta’s most talented and popular contemporary singer/song writer was scheduled which we attended and I will show some shots I took, later – there was a crowd but not as much as I had expected to see. On Sunday the return to Malta was disastrous to say the least. Thousands and thousands of Maltese crossed to Gozo for the day and a 15 minute drive from my sister’s apartment to the ferry terminal ended with a 5 hour queue. We will not be there next time something like this is organised, or else we will consider returning on Monday when it’s all over.
Thank you very much for looking and for your lovely comments on yesterday's picture.
A lovely collage and worth the traffic jam. A good idea to leave the return til Monday mext time rather than miss it altogether. What drew the crowds on Sunday?
