I bought this Peugeot 309 (diesel) – way back in 1988 and it has been in the family ever since. I loved this car - it has served me well until I bought another car in 1997 when I gave it over to Christine. Since then it has been the mule for all the family; Christine used it for her shopping and for her other errands; JP used it when he came on holiday from UK; I used it often when I didn’t feel like getting the other car out of the garage, and especially when I wanted to carry timber or some other heavy object; we used it all to go swimming returning home dripping sea water.
All of a sudden it developed some engine trouble which was a bit expensive to repair. I had three options to consider:
1. Make the necessary expenses to keep it going – after all, it was still in impeccable condition;
2. Share one car with Christine - that would have reduced my freedom to go out whenever I liked.
3. Buy a new car to replace the Peugeot.
For my own comfort, I took the 3rd option and bought a Volkswagon Up.
Thank you very much for looking and for your wonderful comments on yesterday’s picture. We have guests coming this evening. Not sure I’ll have time to comment on all your photos.
I`ve lost the number of cars I`ve owned/use. The first one was a Fiat 850 .
Nice collage of 2 great cars.
Thank you very much for the fav. It makes my day.
Sounds like the old car did indeed serve you and the family well. Throwing money at one area of an old machine invariably causes other parts to fail. Hope you enjoy the VW - it will be a significant technology update.
It is always a mix of good and bad when you must make an exchange. We just did the same thing. Our old vehicle had 203,000 miles on it, and it served us well. We finally got ourselves a new one. Instead of letting the old one go to the dealer, we cleaned her up and gave it to our Daughter so she would have 4 Wheel Drive to use for work, and it can stay in the family a bit longer.
