Xemxija (pronounced: sham, shi as in shit –sorry for the word - ya.)
Xemxija, which means ‘sunny place’ – very appropriate, I must say – started as a summer resort with people purchasing small houses to use for the summer months and get away from the city. Public transport wasn’t as efficient as it is today and it took time for workers to commute to the city or towns to attend to their work. Today, with transport as it is, many people buy houses or flats in this area as their places of abode all the year round.
Thank you very much for looking and for your lovely comments on yesterday’s picture.
('ship' also has a 'shi' sound in it :) )
