SULMONA - OVID’S BIRTHPLACE. by sangwann

SULMONA - OVID’S BIRTHPLACE.

These are a few shots of the architecture of the Annunziata complex which is the most beautiful building in the town of Sulmona. You can see the different style of sculptures on the two windows. The complex consists of a church with an annex palace... all white and richly decorated. The church is the older building, dating back to 1300 - while the palace was built 200 years later.
Sulmona lies on a plateau once occupied by a lake that disappeared in prehistoric times. In the ancient era, it was one of the most important cities of the Paeligni and is known for being the native town of Ovid, the famous Roman poet.
Thank you so very much for looking, for your wonderful comments and for the many fav's on yesterday's picture.
BTW this was taken on 20th April, Easter Sunday when we went to this lovely town to watch a special event for Easter. More information to follow.

Lovely triptych and great clarity, particularly in the detail shots. It's a constant source of wonder to me that masons are able to fashion stone to get so much sharp detail.
