Abruzzo Day 5. 20th April
A final shot from the day’s collection.
When I posted the sunrise shot of Easter Sunday, I told you that this day was a magnificent day for photo-shooting – the best day of the whole vacation - so many other shots I would have loved to post but I can’t go on forever. Leaving Scanno I thought I had had enough for the day. But no, out came the camera again for our trip back to Montesilvano where our hotel was situated. Our coach passed through gorgeous mountain scenery and this is one of the shots I took from the coach as it manouvered through the narrow mountain road.
Another shot I took of this area shows the entrance to that bridge where a sign said ‘Eremo di San Domenico’ and underneath ‘Grotto’. Thank God for that as otherwise I wouldn’t have known where we were. An interesting feature which caught my eyes was the almost completely submerged arch below the bridge arch.
I checked on Wikipedia about this place and it seems that there is a rock-cut cave where in the year 1000 a Benedictine friar ‘San Domenico’ lived as a hermit. The building is a church situated near the cave. The bridge crosses a lake named after the saint.
Thank you very much for your lovely comments on yesterday’s picture.
