At midnight between 20th and 21st September, 1964, when I was still a young man of 20 I was present at the ceremony when the British flag was officially lowered and the Maltese flag began to rise in the gentle breeze of the end of summer Maltese weather to, henceforth, take its place on all public buildings. It was such an emotional moment which people of my age will never forget. Times have been exciting during these 50 years and Malta made gigantic steps forward to become a proud, though tiny, and respectable nation among its European partners.
I captured the flag at an event to commemorate the event – the firework is from another picture. More pictures of the event to follow when I sort them out.
Thank you very much for looking and for your lovely comments on yesterday’s picture.
That is very exciting! It is an awesome feeling to be a part of something historic. If you haven't already, share those stories with your grandchildren. You will inspire them as you have experienced it first hand.
thanks for writing the history.
