I had intended to end the series on the Rolex Middlesea Race yesterday so that I could finish my Tuscany holiday posts and narrative – I hate to leave something unfinished.
But I had to post this one more shot. Those who followed the series will remember me showing an extract of the official report that the race was caught up in a ferocious storm around Stromboli with waves reaching over 30 feet. So the next day, camera in hand, off I went to the promenade to try and capture the rough sea. However, the sea had abated but from one side of the safety of the inner Balluta Bay I saw these 4 persons cheering on this struggler trying to make it to port. The hull hardly showed above the waves in the open sea – quite a contrast with the boat safely inside the bay. In about 20 minutes time when I had walked round the bay and faced the open sea I could see it still trying to make it to port with barely a half sail because of the strong winds. I hope it did arrive because there were many others who had to give up.
Thank you very much for looking and for your wonderful comments and the fav's on yesterday's picture. Tomorrow I will take up my Tuscany story.
Thank you, Dione, for your nice compliments to us both. Straggler and Struggler both fit - I was being slightly humorous in labelling it Straggler - not intending to correct your really brilliant English! Interesting family connection with IOW. @ivan
