Took this shot last Sunday, the coldest day yet this winter. There was a cold breeze which didn’t make things easy for these swimmers even though it was sunny.
For many years now, it has become the custom that a swim for charity is organised on the Sunday between Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. The event is organised in Balluta Bay, Sliema. I had forgotten about the event but luckily I had the camera with me to record it. There were many friends of mine and other people I know who participated. And for those who may ask, I was not one of them; I had woollens on besides a warm jacket. I use other methods to be charitable.
Yesterday it was colder and today is worse. There was a storm going on up to a few minutes ago. Hope it clears up.
Thank you so much for the lovely comments and the fav’s on yesterday’s picture.
There are parts of the coast in England where these events take place at this time of year. Can't see the attraction when it's so cold but I admire their spirt and generosity.
Nice shot.
Oh great capture but soo cold. We have a Boxing Day dip on Saltburn beach and I am always amazed at how many folk that are willing to take a freezing dip for charity!
This brought a big smile to my face! What brave giving souls! Hope they all survived? hahahah! Just a bunch of bobbing heads in a cold sea...with a few Santas thrown in the mix! Love this. Glad you had enough sense to stay on dry land. What a great event for a good cause I am sure.
What a fun way to give charity and they are so tough... wonderful capture Dione! Its so cold out here also but not as cold in your place. Happy New Year Dione!
Great shot of all these crazy, freezing people being charitable!!! Great cause, but hope they don't catch pneumonia!!! Glad you had your camera handy to record this scene!!!
We do it here on New Year's Day - call it the Polar Bear swim. And if, for any reason, the water is not cold enough in any given year, they bring ice from the local hockey rink and dump it in with the swimmers. No, I also provide my charity in other ways ;-)
Nice shot.
