This is how the Mosta Church appeared when I came to it. I was astonished at the beautiful and colourful lighting that adorned it. On the left to the rear of the church are the ground fireworks ready for the display on the eve of the feast.
One story about this magnificent building goes to WWII when a huge bomb fell directly on the dome, penetrated it and fell among the congregation that was hearing mass at the time. The bomb did not explode as otherwise it would made havoc of the church and all the people inside. The bomb and related photographs are exhibited in the church museum.
A couple of days ago I heard that the Church Authorities intend to raise this church to a basilica.
Joke: I was looking and admiring the lighting that covered Mosta church when this guy came over to me. He asked me about the feast and all the lights. I explained to him the traditions of the Maltese festa and asked him where he came from and he said “From Indiana” . The he continued: “I love all these festive lights. They remind me of Obama voters. They all hang together; half don't work; and the ones that do,aren't that bright.”
Thank you so much for looking, for the wonderful comments and the fav's and for helping my shot of yesterday make it to tp and pp.
