Shot taken on Maundy Thursday in Gozo.
This is the Altar of Repose of the Agostinian church at Rabat. Louise (my daughter-in-law) is kneeling down in prayer.
Malta is predominately Catholic. There is a tradition in the Maltese Islands which is gradually losing ground to other methods of saying prayers. After the Last Supper ceremony when the feet of eleven people chosen from the parish are washed by the celebrant, the Host is placed in the Altar of Repose for the adoration of the faithful. Then the traditional visit to the seven Altars of Repose starts with people, alone or in small groups, saying appropriate prayers in front of an Altar of Repose in one church, then move to another church, saying the rosary on the way. My family has continued this tradition and we visited by walk seven different churches in Rabat, Gozo.
I always take my camera along to take shots of the different Altars that we visit.
Thank you very much for following my programme and for the lovely comments and fav's. on yesterday's picture.
At first, this struck me with two thoughts: busy and gorgeous. Then, I really looked at your photo. The busy background than began to tell your story. Wonderful perspective with your daughter in law at prayer. Wonderful tradition. A fav
Wonderful image of a heartfelt tradition that your family hold on to Dione.
