Did we, three men go shopping? Certainly not and even if we needed we wouldn’t have shopped in this place. Prices were very high in this posh Milan shopping mall.
This is the elegant Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, one of the world's oldest shopping malls. Housed within a four-storey double arcade in central Milan, the Galleria is named after the first king of Italy. It was designed in 1861 and built between 1865 and 1877.
On the ground of the central octagonal of the mall, there are four mosaics portraying the coat of arms of the three capitals of the Kingdom of Italy – Turin, Florence and Rome - plus Milan's.
The last time I was here (around 18 years ago) we were told that if a person spins around with a heel on the testicles of the bull from the Turin coat of arms that person would return one day. This practice had already caused damage to the mosaic: a hole developed on the place of the bull's genitals.
I wanted to show to JP and Ian but I could not find it. The funny thing is that I did the spin on the bull’s private parts that time almost falling over in the process without having any intention to return one day. AND I DID.
Looks a wonderful shopping mall. I like the elegance of the buildings and glass ceiling. Window shopping is a joy amongst grand architecture. Katharine
Great shot of the shopping mall.
To tell the true, I prefer small streets with little shops where the owner sells his favorits and is glad to have a customer . Where the talk is as even importend as the sale.
