Tuesday, 28th February was a great day, photography-wise. First I took many pictures at the children’s carnival in the morning and in the evening I was out again and went to watch the opera ‘Le Nozze di Figaro’ at the Manoel Theatre in Valletta. I went with my brother because our wives are not opera-lovers. I made sure to be in the theatre as early as possible to take some shots of the inside because I knew that photography during the opera would not be allowed. It is probably the first time in my life that I took shots in here.
The Manoel Theatre is named after Grand Master of the Order of the Knights Hospitaller, Fra António Manoel de Vilhena, who ordered its construction in 1731. The theatre is reputed to be Europe's third-oldest working theatre and the oldest theatre still in operation in the Commonwealth of Nations.
It considers itself as the country's national theatre and the home of Malta Philharmonic Orchestra. The tiers of boxes in the theatre are constructed entirely of wood, decorated with gold leaf. The theatre has a pale blue trompe-l'oeil ceiling that resembles a round cupola. The building is a Grade 1 listed building in Malta.
Many thanks for all your views, comments and favs. Always much appreciated.
Superb pov and capture of this beautiful and ornate interior ! I hope you and your brother thoroughly enjoyed the opera in these luxurious surroundings !
Gorgeous! Reminds me of some of the images i got to see the one time i made it to europe many years ago! - it's one of the reasons i enjoy 365. -get to travel to far away lands! ;)
What a stunning building its so beautiful, I hope you and your brother enjoyed the performance. 'The Marriage of Figaro ' is what I would call a 'fun' opera, how wonderful to realise that The Manoel would have been built before Mozart was even born. 🎼🎶
