I took this shot from the ferry as we were returning home. I like how the light of the setting sun lit this part of Comino – the third largest island in the Maltese archipelago. On top is Santa Maria Tower built in 1618 and financed by Grand Master Alof de Wignacourt . it was part of a system of towers providing defence and communication between the Ċittadella in Gozo and Mdina in Malta, something the Maltese people had been asking for since 1418. The tower was restored in 2004.
St. Mary's Tower on Comino was featured in the film The Count of Monte Cristo, where it doubled as the Château d'If.
Thank you so much for looking and for the comments and fav’s on yesterday’s picture.
