This is Ortigia Cathedral. We had already visited Ortigia a few years back but the façade of this cathedral and the adjacent palazzo are always great to capture. At the top right corner is the tip of a sun umbrella of one of the cafes/restaurants on the opposite side of the town square. I liked the added colour so I didn’t remove it.
The Ortigia cathedral facade was built in the 18th century and is the most important monument of the old city.
Ortigia is the historical part of Syracuse and stands on a peninsula to the south of the more modern city. More than 2400 years ago Ortigia formed the centre of the most important Greek city in the entire nation, and apparently at that time it was almost the most impressive.
Btw this is a merge of two shots. Do you see the same man appearing twice in the picture?
Had a great time with the camera - between 7.00pm yesterday and 7.00am this morning (excluding sleeping time) I took around 200 pictures. Yesterday evening at the Malta Military Tattoo and this morning capturing sunrise. Will show some shots when I manage to sort them out.
Thank you so much for your views, comments and fav's. Always appreciated.
Beautiful building and I rather like the snippet of parasol in the corner. I can't spot the join 🙂 lovely photo and as always great historical information.

Oh, and yes, I know lettuce leaves are much bigger but the color and the mushrooms which looked like tomatoes sort of dictated the imagination!
