This year’s Malta Military Tattoo was held in St George’s Sqaure in front of the presidential palace. Those taking part
marched through Valletta’s main street – Republic Street - to the palace where they were to wait for their turn to give their show.
This is the Massed Pipes and Drums band made up of four local pipe bands: 1st Cospicua Scout Group Pipes and Drums; 1st Ħamrun Scout Group Duke of Argyll’s Own Pipe Band; Marsa Scouts Pipes and Drums; and the Wallace Pipes and Drums (Malta) as they marched through Republic Street. I have to say that they excited me in their performance almost as much as the clans’ bands did when I attended the Edinburgh Military Tattoo years ago.
Oh what a fabulous scene I was immediately remembering times spent in Edinburgh. I know a lot of people dislike the sound of bagpipes I however find them quite moving, but I did have a Scottish grandfather. 🏴
Awesome picture . So many in the four bands. I only ever saw one playing the bagpipes at my garanddaughter's wedding and when here dear Nana (grandmother) passed away.
I love the Pipes and they always bring tears to my eyes- ah but then I have a full branch of Scottish blood running through my veins and some of my ancestors hailed from Edinburgh. Awesome shot!
( My wife Ina has been in a brass band for more than 25 years.)
