The Way of the Cross. Last Sunday, Palm Sunday, we went to Ħal Għaxaq to watch the Good Friday (in this case Holy Week) procession/pageant which goes around the old streets of this small village. Through people dressed in appropriate costumes and statues of Christ and His sufferings, the procession gives a biblical account of what led and finally ended by Christ’s crucifiction. This is close-up of Christ falling under the cross. I thought it appropriate for a day like today.
I have taken many, many pictures of the event and hopefully I will show a few after I finish my Barcelona series.
There are several processions like this that take place around Malta and Gozo on Good Friday and they are really crowd pullers with many tourists (and maltese) buying seating to watch in comfort. There are also three towns/villages that hold have their procession on Palm Sunday, two in Malta and one in Gozo.
