After the long wait, when the sun had gone down and it was pitch dark, I was tired waiting for the Vespucci to appear and went down a steep concrete stairs to the beach below to get a wider range of vision - and then I saw it. And guess what? It was sailing out to sea – so the photographer I met earlier was right. I would have missed it if I hadn’t moved from the location facing the Grand Harbour breakwater . Although some distance away already, It was such a beautiful sight to see its riggings lit up with the national colours of the Italian State. I later learned that the lighting was in homage to all the Italian nationals living and working in Malta who wished to return home during Covid19 but could not because of the closure of the sea and air ports.
