Such a beautiful morning and just had the urge to take a photo as he was leaving- rather pleased with the effect! Wish I didn't have school to go to and I could have enjoyed a week-end away!
As part of his serious studies of Gaelic my husband regularly travels to Skye for week end schools at Sabhal Mor Ostaig http://www.uhi.ac.uk/home/uhi-campuses/smo
This week end he and some other students are heading for Lewis - hopefully-weather permitting -travelling to the island by boat to learn about the Guga Hunters!
It may be controversial in our world but in the past it was a matter of survival. Interesting history whatever.
"Every year, ten men from Ness, at the northern tip of the Isle of Lewis, sail north-east for some forty miles to a remote rock called Sulasgeir. Their mission is to catch and harvest the guga; the almost fully grown gannet chicks nesting on the two hundred foot high cliffs that circle the tiny island, which is barely half a mile long. After spending a fortnight in the arduous conditions that often prevail there, they return home with around two thousand of the birds, pickled and salted and ready for the tables of Nessmen and women both at home and abroad."
Sounds like Allan's going to have a busy w/e !! When you say travel by boar ..what on earth is that !/ Love the way the sunshine filters through to ! I bet you wish you were going too !
@annielf enjoy Barra.......that's one of my 'still to do' places but my roots are in Lewis and North Uist and I do love the Western Isles. Hope the sun shines a little at least!
