This is not a recent photo. But today I just wanted to include something that was from my roots, memorable for the best reasons - a lovely autumn trip to the Western Isles which included a visit to these awesome stones.
I find it quite amusing that in all the years I went to stay for a month at the next village where my dad grew up, we never went to see the stones. They were no big deal to the local people forty-something years ago.
Now they are a significant feature attracting visitors from across the world. Nice to look back on photos taken a while ago too! http://www.callanishvisitorcentre.co.uk/
@happypat Ah yes! They are supposed to be even older than Stonehenge but I suppose being less accessible they were not so high profile! It's a lovely setting- not far from the sea and there are two or three villages within walking distance. I love it all.
A wonderful place to visit - and in a much more impressive setting than Stonehenge ... and certainly not as touristy. How special to be able to trace your roots to here.
It's funny how all you hear about is Stonehenge, but here are these other structures- perhaps even more breath taking. I think including the path was the right decision. The curves work so nicely together. The natural colors are beautiful. It's the kind of landscape I think of for a place like this. Lovely shot.
Had to fave this--there were several standing stones/stone rings I remember coming across when I backpacked across the UK, I found them really fascinating.
