This is a wonderful weeping beech that we have watched growing for 18 years but sadly it was badly damaged during a gale in May/June and you can see the crack just where the trunk forms a V.
We cut off a lot of the growth but I think it will have to come down before very long. So sad as it was even more of a delight this spring than I had ever noticed before........perhaps because of this project!!
I'm afraid I can see a crack too Sallie but you never know we had a tree at Inglewhite that had no middle to it's trunk at all & every year with out fail it had leaves !! I love the weeping leaves !
@happypat thanks Pat - that is really encouraging. Maybe I will just be optimistic and give it some TLC over the winter and talk to it and tell it I love it!!!!
You never know about these things. We have a tree in the front yard that for all practical purposes should be dead. Half of the trunk is hollow! Yet, it's still blooming every Spring and shading the bedroom. We even had to cut the top off one year because we were afraid the dead side would let go and we'd have a hole in our roof. But that was about 5 years ago and it's still standing! So yours might surprise you. The colors certainly are beautiful!
