phases of new look

Well......our family space is taking on a new look! For Allan's birthday I bought him a new chair....the 20 year old one was really showing it's age! And that started some conversation about refreshing the space now that it's mostly our space and no longer full of young people and all their stuff!! Lovely when they come back though!
We took the cushion to choose the right carpet........and found curtain fabric in the department next to it................and today we have completed phase one! One wall stripped and papered ready for the right colour once the other items are in place......which will take a few weeks.
Already I like the effect! The dimensions look totally different after changing the yellow and blue pattern ( which I loved when we put it on and removed with some sense of nostalgia!) for white!
And I took a photo of the photos that were on the wall.................may change them or add to them when all the work is done.

Three good things
1. Fabulous light for working on the job today
2. Long sleep last night so up for anything today!!
3. Great long chat with Connor, David and Jenn today. Things seem to be better in Kiev so hope and pray that peace will soon return to such a lovely country which has had enough trouble and bloodshed!
Funny but just in the empty nest stage myself and starting to consider changes to make this more a home to fit who we are now rather than the young family we were. I also remember with mixed feelings going home after mom remodeled and always feeling a bit displaced. Good luck with this redo

Haha- I loved your color combination of yellow and blue in the former décor (and I've never really been there except in pictures!) but white was a good choice- very crisp and clean! Choosing a color is so important- once it's up, it's hard to change it! Jeff chose the new color in our living and dining room and on the small scale, I thought it'd be ok, but I really don't like it! I wish I'd stuck to my guns and insisted on the color I'd chosen. But then he'd probably be complaining instead of me! Happy redecorating!

You are so good with your interior decoration Sarah, that new colour scheme works really well, it looks calm and relaxing. I find interiors very hard, partly because James and I never agree about what we should have and we end up with a bad compromise, so I totally understand @olivetreeann above! I really think the only solution might be he does the drawing room and I do the dining room!

Work in progress......new curtains hopefully by next weekend, white softened to ......still to be decided once curtains are up.......and should be ready for the carpet to arrive when all the messy stuff is done!
The colour dots on the curtain fabric edge have made it easy really but it's nice to record the change bit by bit! Thanks so much for your comments!
