It's been quite a day! This is a favourite view of the north end of the Caledonian Canal. I haven't been here at 7.30am before!!!!
I travelled from Mum's to Glasgow (train) to attend the Thanksgiving Service for her lovely cousin who passed away last week. Rena was a lovely lady who I remember coming to stay each September and who took photos of me and my siblings year after year. I'd love to see all of them together!!!
Everyone who knew her held her in high esteem...a rather grand term but she just was someone special who added love and gentleness to her family and friends. She was a single lady but loved her neices and their families, and her cousin's families (like me!!!).
Each Christmas I enjoyed writing her a letter with photos and updates of our 'B Team' and always got a lovely reply!
Today her sister told me that she had got to read these letters year by year and, even though I hadn't met her often, it felt like we were very close. Also lovely to catch up with some other cousins of Mum.
I came away with a huge sense of gratitude at having so much love and kindness in my genes! It's a huge extended family with lots of 2nd and 3rd cousins still in touch to some degree!!
But it was a long day. 6.30am train and 3.10pm bus to Aberdeen, 7.15pm train to Dyce where Allan met me.
Tomorrow a 3 hour bus journey to collect my car in Elgin after it's service....my choice to take the bus north to the coast and then west along the shore road. Hoping for sunshine before the rain and thunder arrive!
Three good things
1. My darling Mum was up to see me off!!!!!!!
2. Trains on time.
3. Family.....close and extended.
You travel so widely in that lovely countryside! Good to hear about your wonderful cousin - probably a 2nd or 3rd but still widely known. Encourages us all to follow her example.
