A friend was at a community archive event in Aberdeen and noticed a very old picture of
'Domhnall Shoec and family' at No 25 North Shawbost, Isle of Lewis.
Knowing I have connections with the Isle of Lewis she wondered.......and sent me the photo.
I forwarded it to a MacArthur cousin who thought they weren't related to us, but were related to Donald MacArthur who was one of the three lighthouse keepers who vanished mysteriously while on duty at the Flannan Isles in 1900 just a year after it had been built.
My Grandpa MacArthur was one of the construction team building the lighthouse but I never had an opportunity to hear his own story about it.
I was amazed at the quality of the photo....not sure when it was taken....and also impressed that my cousin replied so quickly with what she knew.
Now I want to go and read more about it all. So many networks of people sharing information in minutes. How different from the times of the actual photo.
Three good things
1. Family history
2. Photographic records
3. Technology
